Just the number of bytes read divided by number of bytes written
Figure bytes transferred from block size x block count
Do the same for reads and writes
Can determine reads vs. writes from SMF record type 14 (read), 15 (write), and 64 (VSAM read and write)
“Safer” to assume high read/write ratio
